Raleigh Garbage, Recycling & Yardwaste Holiday Collection Schedule

Thanksgiving Holiday - City Observed Thursday, November 27, 2008 and Friday, November 28, 2008

Solid Waste Services WILL observe Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 for its City Holiday, however, Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 WILL NOT BE observed.  Work schedules for Solid Waste Services collection crews will be as follows:

Monday, Nov. 24           No scheduled collections.
Tuesday, Nov. 25         Regular collection for garbage, recycling and yard waste.
Wednesday, Nov. 26   Regular collection for garbage, recycling and yard waste.

Thursday, Nov. 27        HOLIDAY-NO COLLECTION. *Make up day Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.
Friday, Nov. 28              Regular collection for garbage, recycling and yard waste.

Saturday, Nov. 29         *Thursday’s scheduled routes will be collected for garbage, recycling and yard waste.

Historic Raleigh Fire Bell

The City of Raleigh Fire Department will be hosting an open house on the weekends of Nov. 21-23 and Dec. 5-7 at Fire Station 1 for residents wishing to see the historic fire bell which was recently returned to the City’s possession.

Originally cast in 1870, the 1000-pound bronze bell was used to alert the City’s volunteer fire force. During the 1940s, the bell was moved to North Carolina State University’s Withers Hall.

Residents are invited to visit Fire Station 1 over the next two weekends and see the bell. Raleigh firefighters will be available to host visitors. Station 1 is located at 220 South Dawson Street.

Free Trees!!

The committee has over 700 hardwood tree seedlings.

These trees can be planted through late spring.

FOR:

Helping to keep Region J green.

Trees are available at no cost to community groups and local governments to plant on public lands throughout Region J (Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Orange and Wake counties).

Old Reliable Run

The 25th Annual Old Reliable Run is coming up this Sunday, November 16. The race will still start and finish at Nash Square. The Old Reliable Run (ORR) is the largest and longest-running 10K in North Carolina.
