Not The Brent Road Party You’re Expecting

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Brent Road neighbors have been invited to a “Brent Road Mini Festival” this Thursday, August 21, 2008.  City of Raleigh Community Services is sponsoring the festival from 5:30 - 7:30 PM near the 600 block of Brent Road.  Hot dogs and light refreshments will be served and Community Services will be there to gather concerns and ideas on how to improve the neighborhood.

During my undergraduate at NC State, I went to few Brent Road parties.  This will be the complete opposite of one of those.

311 & Snoop Bring the Good Vibes to the Creek

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

The lightning was a side light show last night at Walnut Creek as Snoop Dogg and 311 played amidst looming thunderstorms. Sever storms came through the area before the show started, so it was a drizzly tailgate party for most concert goers. I took my position on the John Deere lawn right as Snoop Dogg was coming out. As the rain clouds gave way to the day’s last night, Snoop Dogg brought his own cloud of smoke to Raleigh. Snoop put a good playlist together and the crowd seemed very pleased. About 1/3 of the lawn was full, not bad considering the weather.

After a short break 311 took the stage as the sun was setting behind us. Walnut Creek filled up a little more for the head liners and the lawn was over half full and still a little soggy. None-the-less, the crowd was into 311 and jammed to the lyrical rhymes and very chill beats. All-in-all, a good show despite the weather. I would have liked to see Snoop and 311 shizzle the nizzle with at least one song together. That would have been the shiznit. Enjoy a short video highlight from the show:

311 Live - Raleigh All Mixed Up

Can’t wait til these guys come back to town, if you didn’t make it last night, you missed an excellent show.
